ever wonder what jack bauer eats when he's spending 24 hours a day saving the world from terrorists?

abrahamic.
'have you prayed & prayed, & waited & waited, & still you see no evidence of an answer? are you tired of seeing no movement? are you at the point of giving up? then perhaps you have not waited in the right way, which removes you from the right place -- the place where the Lord can meet you. "wait for it patiently" (rom.8:25). patience eliminates worry. the Lord said He would come, & His promise is equal to His presence.'
~l.b.cowman, streams in the desert.
'by faith abraham, when he was called... went out, not knowing were he was going. by faith he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land...'

take my hand & walk.
i hate it when i like a song that i shouldn't like. this song came on the radio today as i was flipping through stations, & my first thought was 'why the heck are they still playing this stuff?' it's from the christian band 'the kry,' circa 1994. old. cheesy. i think the band had mullets when they played this song. but i listened to it &, damn it, i liked it. what can i say, sometimes God uses strange things to get my attention...
i know there are times
your dreams turn to dust
you wonder as you cry
why it has to hurt so much
give Me all your sadness
someday you will know the reason why
with a child-like heart
simply put your trust in Me
take My hand & walk where I lead
keep your eyes on Me alone
don't say "why were the old days better?"
just because you're scared of the unknown
take My hand & walk
don't live in the past
cause yesterday's gone
wishing memories would last
you're afraid to carry on
you don't know what's coming
but you know the One who holds tomorrow
I will be your guide
take you through the night
if you keep your eyes on Me
take my hand & walk where I lead
keep your eyes on Me alone
don't say "why were the old days better?"
just because you're afraid of the unknown
take My hand & walk where I lead
you will never be alone
faith is to be sure of what you hope for
& the evidence of things unseen
so take my hand & walk
just like a child
holding daddy's hand
don't let go of mine
you know you can't stand
on your own
take my hand & walk.

i like amazon.
remember what it was like when you had to actually put in some work to be able track down information? you know, like call a record store, or go to the library? pre-google, pre-amazon?
i know amazon isn't exactly a novelty, but i am a little bit enamored with it right now. i'm crazy about it. the day i realized i could send an order without even getting out my wallet, that i didn't even have to leave the computer, that was a dangerous day. packages filled with stacks of books have been arriving on my doorstep ever since. i like that.

i like africa.
actually, no. i love africa. if i could drop everything right now & go anywhere i wanted to go, i would absolutely go straight to africa. it even beats out my home away from home: england.
i had my 16th birthday in africa. i got to go there on a missions trip, 15 years old, & the whole continent stole my heart that summer.
africa shook up all my perceptions about people & places. one of the first things i remember, landing in durban, south africa, is riding in a car with a pastor's daughter who was about my age, & talking to her about what had been on oprah that week. weird.
africa is so exotic & beautiful & funky & sad. i love africa.

"once one has been to these challenging terrible places they're always strangely drawn back because there's nothing that can compare to seeing the raw reality of the basic human need for survival. it disgusts & inspires."

i like the airport.
there are few places i would rather be than at the airport or on an airplane, because it means i am going somewhere. i like the luggage & the shops with lots of magazines & the sense of anticipation & the departure and arrival boards & the flight attendants with the rolling suitcases & the sound of the golf-cart-y things buzzing around & the overhead announcements that you can't park here -- violaters will be towed. i like that you can't say "hi jack" without getting in trouble cause i think thats funny. i even like the crappy stuff like long lines & delayed flights & layovers & airplane air & those tiny pillows & having to take your shoes off & walk in your socks through security... just because all of that is a part of going somewhere. & the best people watching in the world is at the airport.
the airport has food to eat, bookstores to buy books in, people to watch, & airplanes to fly off into the sunset on. what more could you want?

i like bauer.
let's be honest, i'm a little bit in love with jack bauer right now. i've watched this show before, but recently i got sick, spent a week & a half laying on the couch, ran out of things to do pretty quick, & stuck the first season of 24 in the dvd player. i watched all 24 episodes in about 3 days, & then started season 2.
there's something you should know about me. i tend to take not-all-that-serious things (like tv shows) pretty seriously. i'm taking 24 very seriously right now. seriously, if you wanted to hear me rant about it i could tell you all kinds of stuff about my issues with men & what i'm learning from watching this show. but i do try to spare you blog-readers from my longer rants, not to mention my strange obsessions with certain ficitional characters. so let's just say this: who doesn't love a guy that can handle a gun?

stuff i love like.
i've been thinking about giving up the ol' blog for a while. i've had this for about a year, & i've just trailed off. maybe i'll quit.
but then i just saw this & drewlo's posts about things she loves. & what the heck, i want to do that too. then maybe i'll be done blogging. or maybe i'll get addicted again. we'll see.

(by the way, i wish we didn't speak in a language that uses the same word to say "i love these pants" as it does to say " i love my husband," but whatever.)
